Key to any worthwhile airport is its selection of bars and pubs. The developers of a new hub in Japan’s International Airport in Nagoya understand this and have reached across the Pacific to Charles and Rose Ann Finkel, founders of Pike Brewing Co. in Seattle, to open up a Pike Brewing Restaurant & Craft Beer Bar inside.
Pretty cool opportunity for Pike (second only to being featured in our five beers to know last week), and one that they earned. For the past five years, Pike Brewing Co. has been distributing its beer in Japan. And maybe just as important as establishing its brand in that new market was establishing a proven distributor partnership with the Zato Trading Co. The beer is shipped via refrigerated cargo ships and stainless steel kegs and, according to the Pike team, by people who care just as much about beer quality, to ensure freshness port to port.
“When Pike was approached about this project in 2016, we decided the Pike Brewing Restaurant & Craft Beer Bar in Nagoya could be a continuation of our successful partnership with the Zato Trading Company owned by Mr. Imazato, and an opportunity to build on that partnership,” said Stasia Brewczynski, director of communications for Pike. “Likewise, Mr. Imazato‘s experience running 25 restaurants in Japan is a boon to this project, and his team’s commitment to quality and accuracy is exemplified in how the new restaurant’s chef came to train in person at The Pike Pub in Seattle in preparation for the opening.”
Some background: Nagoya is home to Toyota and Japan’s leading auto and aviation center. Since many components of Boeing airplanes are produced there, Boeing donated its first 787 Dreamliner airplane to Centrair, one of the world’s highest rated airports and a hospitality hub for shopping, dining and conventions. The airport is building the Flight of Dreams, a pavilion showcasing the aircraft alongside Seattle-centric shops and restaurants. Pike Brewing Restaurant & Craft Beer Bar is actually central to the design. The walls will be adorned with more than 600 pieces of awesome old timey beer art to reflect The Pike Pub’s iconic collection of thousands of authentic pieces of beer memorabilia. A sample:
The grand opening is slated for Sept. 5, 2018. Book your flights now.
