Canning can create a conundrum for breweries that often strive for sustainable solutions. The aluminum can is recyclable, which is great, but those cans need carriers, and often the best option involves plastic, and the last thing the world needs is more plastic. But thanks to PakTech, that entire four- or six-pack unit, the can and the carrier, is now an example of full sustainability.
Years ago PakTech ended the fish-getting-stuck-in-plastic-rings PSA with its secure-attachment carriers, which helped assuage some of that environmental conflict. But perhaps the bigger development is 100 percent of these carriers coming from recycled sources and being 100 percent recyclable themselves.
“These handles add nothing to the waste stream,” said Mike Seestadt, regional sales for PakTech in the video above. “They come from recycled resin, are remanufactuered into new products and then if they are recycled, there is zero impact on the environment.”
Oh, and it’s also way easier to remove cans from the latest version of these carriers. If that sounds appealing to you, and you just need a better way to apply these suckers to your cans, PakTech also debuted a new system for doing so at CBC 2018: the CCA 440 Plus.
“We can go as slow as 40 cans per minutes, that’s our base model, up to 875 cans per minute with continuous motion,” said Jeremy Pond, applicator unit manager for PakTech. To learn more about that feature and more about the applicator and the carriers themselves, watch the short video above.
