Ride hailing is a godsend for those who like to imbibe in beer. No longer are you shackled by a) convincing someone to not drink and drive you around or b) driving drunk. The app taxi services of Lyft are certainly twirling their pink mustaches in the beer industry’s general direction. Lyft is cleverly working with beer companies and organizations to incentivize beer drinkers to use its service. In late August, we noted that the Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association announced that is was partnering with Lyft. Using the promo code “BNBA,” each user gets four $5 credits toward rides and (much cooler) the brewers association gets a $10 finder’s fee that will go toward the organization (so you’d be supporting craft like a boss).
Now, Lyft is teaming up with the Massachusetts Brewers Guild, offering promo codes and perks to more than 90 craft breweries across the state. To honor the partnership, Lyft is offering 10 percent off rides to Massachusetts Brewers Guild member breweries between Oct. 24 and Oct. 29 with the code MBG17. According to Metro USA Boston (Metro is a free daily newspaper written for young professionals, published in more than 100 major cities across the globe):
“Our mission is to drive traffic to all breweries in every nook and corner, to western mass to the lower Cape region to the northeast, so we’re hoping to see a lot of traffic with this,” said Katie Stinchon, executive director of the brewers guild. “Some breweries are out of reach for public transportation and not everyone has access to a car, especially our city folk. It’s a natural partnership.”
Breweries will also have and earn Lyft credits as another partnership perk to promote safety.
“Every taproom manager will start to accrue credits as people use the Lyft codes, so they have the ability to send someone home in a safe way, whether a staff employee or a guest,” Stinchon said.
Lyft is targeting responsible drinkers as a major client base overall. For the second year in a row, the San Francisco-based ride hailing service has teamed up with Budweiser to reduce drunk driving. According to the Lyft blog:
Each night thousands of Lyft drivers are doing their part to keep drunk drivers off the road. Now Budweiser’s “Give a Damn. Don’t Drive Drunk” campaign is making the right choice easier than ever by providing up to 150,000 total round-trip rides during weekends and holidays through the end of the year. The rides will be available across 10 states: New York, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Texas, Georgia, and Washington, D.C.
…
To redeem the offer, head to Budweiser’s Facebook or Instagram page each Thursday at 2 PM ET to find a unique ride code. Those over the age of 21 can use it to claim a $20 ride credit (two $10 one-way rides) through the Lyft app. The credits can be redeemed for rides taken between 5 PM and 5 AM local time that Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night.
Perhaps now is a good time to mention that your brewery and/or your brewer’s guild should start working out some ride hailing perks to entice customers to your venues.
