Epic Brewing has a new series of New England-style IPAs debuting this month that caught our eye. We also like how honest they are about the hop explosion contained within.
“We’ve been downright irresponsible when it comes to hop utilization,” stated the press release. “Our brewers have been experimenting with everything from Luluplin powder, to massive hop backs, exploring the flavor synergies of fermentation hopping, and literally cramming in more dry hops then our tanks can even hold. Through months of R&D and long nights cleaning out the clogged heat exchanger we’ve developed several different recipes — because our approach to the New England-Style is simple: More is better.”
The series will launch in 12-ounce cans and on draft across its entire distribution footprint. Each release will have its own code name and rotate recipes every two to three months. See the side of the can for indicators about each new recipe. The first release goes by Citralush and its over-the-top use of late addition Citra and Mosaic hops gives the beer huge notes of sweet tropical fruit, citrus and a very subtle touch of Colorado dankness.
The first cans will begin packing the middle of August before being rushed to distribution. Epic says it is optimizing batch sizes and distributor orders so the beer hits shelves as fresh as possible.
