This episode features Jason Roberson, the former art director from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. He spent 11 years as a designer at the brewery. The topic of the episode is rebranding a brewery, when/how and useful tips on doing a rebrand.
Ryan Wheaton has been navigating the worlds of design, publishing, marketing and social media for the last 14 years. Now he’s helping brewing pros navigate today’s crowded indie beer terrain via his new podcast Branding Brews. Hold up. Before we even get into this. Does Wheaton know his stuff enough to host a podcast series where he works with beer and marketing specialists from across the industry? Like, if we gave him a design task, say, create a tap handle. How would he stand up?
You be the judge.
Tips to design a beer tap handle (even without a strong brand in place)
Wheaton’s new Branding Brews aims to bring insightful branding and marketing information from beer industry professionals covering a variety of topics. We should also note that Wheaton spent some time teaching craft beer branding and design for the Craft Beer Startup Workshop put on by Oregon State University. Just a few topics that the show will be covering:
- Rebranding a brewery
- Planning content for packaging and branding
- Package and label design
- Crowdfunding
- Social media
“Over the years I have listened to beer, marketing or design podcasts that didn’t seem to deliver real value to me as a listener,” said Wheaton. “Podcasts can be entertaining to me, but in the end I also want to be able to feel like I learned something. My aim is to bring my knowledge of branding and beer together with other great industry professionals to create a show for all of those wanting to learn, market and brand beer.”
