We saw this post last night for Opening Day and had to share. USA Today Sports posted about Yankee Stadium’s “Craft Beer Destination,” which apparently is a bit of a misnomer. We’ve been seeing a bunch of interest from craft brewers wanting to get into sports stadiums. Yesterday, we wrote a story on the new 360 End can design from Crown, a technology that allows a beer can’s top to come off completely, a design geared toward stadium use. Pennsylvania’s Sly Fox Brewing Co. will utilize Crown’s 360 End for its Pikeland Pils, which will be offered exclusively at Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
But what’s this about Yankee Stadium? Baseball like beer is a great American tradition, so a few fans were disappointed to see the Yankee Stadium’s craft beer selection basically consisted of Big Beer “craft brands” from MillerCoors. We quote USA Today Sports:
New Yankee Stadium now has a “Craft Beer Destination.” The selection befits the stadium itself, artificial and mostly flavorless. Despite what the faux wood paneling would have you believe, none of the four are “craft beers.” All four belong to some form of MillerCoors subsidiary. “Beer” is also deployed loosely. Crispin is a cider. Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy is beer and lemonade. Blue Moon is a Belgian white beer served with fruit. The “heaviest” beer on tap, Batch 19, is a lager.
