The serpentine-themed Nessie is as cool as it sounds. The beer barons at Ziemann Holvrieka are currently discussing the much hyped new mash filtration system at the Craft Brewers Conference and BrewExpo in Washington this week. Nessie is aimed at revolutionizing pretty much all conventional brewhouse processes, which is a pretty big deal. By means of four rotary disk filters, connected in a series, the advanced mash filtration process combines the following process steps: separation of spent grains and wort, extraction in the counterflow procedure as well as the dynamic washing of solids and their separation.
With Nessie, the brewer achieves high extract yields and a high content of yeast vital substances. The interaction of design and technological advantages creates new framework conditions for the wort production. With Nessie, three process steps can be implemented with only one system. Cool, right? Let’s let beer brainiac Ralph Schneller-Reindell explain it better in the video above. He’s vice president of sales for Ziemann Holvrieka in America.
