Check out Yuengling’s new packaging, though you probably can’t tell much of a difference

D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc. nabbed the No. 1 spot again for the biggest craft brewers in America (it was announced just last week). In 2014, the Brewers Association tweaked its definition for a craft brewery, and the biggest revision to the definition was recognizing adjunct brewing as traditional, which means, among other things, Yuengling could now be included. And why not? Brewers have long brewed with what has been available to them, and the idea that brewers who had been in business for generations didn’t qualify as “traditional” really doesn’t make sense.

Well now, the biggest craft brewer in America and its oldest still-operating brewery is looking to slightly revamp its packaging — specifically its core brands Yuengling Traditional Lager, Light Lager and Black and Tan in April 2017. This is the first time the flagship brand Yuengling Traditional Lager packaging has been updated in nearly 30 years, but honestly, I couldn’t really tell what changed at first glance. Feel free to compare the old packaging down below. From the press release:

“We are excited to introduce updated packaging of our core brands which features our powerful Yuengling Eagle and Barrel icon, a proud symbol of our family owned brewery since 1829.” said Dick Yuengling, owner and president.

If you didn’t know: The company’s first brewery was named the Eagle Brewery, constructed in Pottsville, Pa., in 1829. The Eagle Brewery was later destroyed by fire in 1831, and D.G. Yuengling relocated operations to the current location, which is recognized as America’s oldest, still-operating brewery. As part of this packaging update, Yuengling Light Lager has relaunched in a blue, white and cream look, which seems perfectly fine. Black and Tan’s new design focuses on the brand’s English style, which is also fine. Back to the press release:
