Everyone likes settling into a nice routine, even businesses. Sure, moving, changing and expanding are all awesome, but the attention needed to open up a new location and get it in working order can take away from other facets of the brewery — like coming up with new, cool beers.
For example, 21st Amendment opened an awesome new location in San Leandro, Calif., after years of contract brewing. Now that the new location is established and routines are set, the brewery is kicking off 2017 with all sorts of news.
“This year you’re going to see a lot more of us and a lot more innovation,” said Dave Wilson, president of 21st Amendment Brewery. “For the last three years our primary focus was getting our San Leandro brewery up and running. Now the brewery is humming, our beers are tasting better than ever and 2017 is go-time. We’re looking forward to sharing a ton of great new things with beer lovers across the U.S.”
New beers, new packaging
January
Starting this month, 21st Amendment is introducing six packs of Blah Blah Blah IPA nationwide. This hoppy, juicy 8 percent ABV IPA will be packaged in 21st Amendment familiar American iconographic style, featuring images from the Prohibition era, with a twist.
“We had a lot of fun designing the new packaging. We were able to evoke our brand look and feel with a splash of our personal humor, which won’t go unnoticed when we unveil this year-round beer in the coming weeks,” added Wilson.
March
Joining the ranks of Hell or High Watermelon (the brewery’s wheat beer brewed with real watermelon), you’ll see the national launch of Blood Orange Brew Free! or Die IPA — in six packs and on draft. According to Brewmaster and co-founder Shaun O’Sullivan, “We’re using the same fruit-infusion technique that we’ve mastered with Watermelon Wheat, but this time we’re introducing a brand new refreshing recipe made with fresh blood oranges that will be a perfect IPA to enjoy year-round. The citrus of the blood orange compliments the hops quite perfectly.”
Also, new 15-packs will be entering all 21st Amendment markets in March, replacing the former 12-packs.
“El Sully Mexican-style lager, Brew Free! or Die IPA and Hell or High Watermelon will be the first 15-packs to make an appearance,” Wilson said. “Following close behind will be year-round variety pack options offering combinations of five different 21A beers.”
Collaborations and new markets
True to form in having fun and switching things up, 21st Amendment says it has “insurrected” its small batch, limited edition Insurrection Series lineup and will introduce new collaborations with industry friends throughout 2017. “This is where our brewers and design team are really going to flex their talent and innovation,” said Wilson. “The 2017 Insurrection Series will feature four brand new seasonal releases that give us a chance to introduce.

Colorado and Arizona
Last but not least, 21st Amendment will be making its way to Arizona and Colorado this spring and summer.
“Our beer has had great success in Southern California and stepping across the border into Arizona just makes a lot of sense,” said Co-Founder Nico Freccia. Alternatively, “Colorado is a mecca for craft beer, and we feel with the advances we’ve made in the brewery, that our beer portfolio will speak well to the Mountain West market.”
With all these plans in place, 21st Amendment Brewery is excited to jump into 2017.
