Those who don’t brew, drink, but we all love getting a behind-the-scenes look at our favorite brewers. That’s why we’re excited about the new video series from Sierra Nevada — The Brewer and the Beer Geek. The new video feature gives craft beer enthusiasts, aspiring homebrewers and growing craft beer professionals uncensored insight into the backgrounds of the brewery’s seasonal, specialty and limited release beers. To complement each beer release, a new podcast episode — around 7 to 8 minutes long — will dissect how the liquid came to be, as well as share tasting notes and beer specs. Two of the beer creators themselves film, host and edit The Brewer and the Beer Geek for genuine and unpolished looks at Sierra Nevada’s lineup.
The Brewer, Terence Sullivan, has been with Sierra Nevada for nearly two decades, holding posts as a shift brewer, the cellar manager and, currently, the product development manager. The Beer Geek, Bill Manley, is a published beer critic and Certified Cicerone who spearheads the creation of small batch, one-off Sierra Nevada beers. These two beer minds are anchors on a team that conceptualizes and realizes Sierra Nevada offerings on the shelves and taps across the country.
“Terence and Bill are craft beer aficionados with big personalities that are perfect for this video series,” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “We want folks to get behind the brewery walls, and these two will lead the way with their knowledge and surely some antics mixed in.”
The first episode of The Brewer and the Beer Geek finds Terence and Bill in the wilderness of Alaska pursuing the elusive Bigfoot while drinking Bigfoot — how appropriate. Filming took place during the Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival, and other podcast episodes will inevitably align with similar celebrations.
“Both Terence and I are constantly on the road at festivals and beer events where we teach and talk beer, likely talking way too much,” said Manley. “The Brewer and the Beer Geek is a fun extension of what we’re already doing, and we hope craft fans will crack open a beer and press play. Just maybe they’ll learn something new about Sierra Nevada, too.”
Next on the docket for The Brewer and the Beer Geek is Ovila Abbey Quad with Plums. Follow the video podcast series at youtube.com/SierraNevadaBrewing.
