It helped put the style of West Coast IPA on the map. It took Simcoe hops to a new level, using a whopping pound per barrel to make it (“I want it to taste great, and I don’t care what it costs!”). It also helped solidify the “lupulin shift” in beer where hops became the focal point of American craft brewing, while using a perfect balance of sweet crystal maltiness.
