This year-round IPA tops New Belgium's new offerings in 2016

A new year brings a new year-round release from New Belgium Brewing. Citradelic Tangerine IPA offers a mystical marriage of Citra hops and tangerine, with tangerine-touched Mandarina Bavaria, tropical Azacca and fruity Galaxy hops that complement the Citra and is balanced with a touch of malty sweetness.

“This hop profile really lends itself to that big citrusy, juicy fruit nose, so the next logical step was to riff off of that with actual Tangerine,” said Assistant Brewmaster Grady Hull. “The result is a brightly citrus, slightly bitter, and pleasantly balanced IPA.”

Citradelic Tangerine IPA comes in at 6 percent ABV and 50 IBUs. It retails for a suggested price between $8.99 and $10.99 a six-pack.

Seasonal Release: Side Trip Belgian Style Pale Ale

In addition to the new year-round release of Citradelic, New Belgium’s Side Trip Belgian Style Pale Ale also hits shelves this January. When New Belgium’s brewmaster Peter Bouckaert stumbled upon the Belgian brewery Brouwerij Van Den Bossche, and its Buffalo yeast strain, he knew he wanted to bring back the taste to the U.S. With a little help from his Belgian friends, and few strains of yeast from the brewery, Side Trip came to fruition.

The pale ale includes Belgian Chateau Abbey and Cara Ruby malts with Belgian Magnum, Saphir and Target hops, providing a bready, caramel-sweet wash with traces of stone fruit and a dry finish. It has 22 IBUs and registers at 6 percent ABV.

Glütiny

This month also marks the official debut of two beers from New Belgium’s Glütiny series, a line of gluten-reduced beers. For both Glütiny Golden Ale and Glütiny Pale Ale, New Belgium brewers used an enzyme to break down the gluten proteins. Glütiny Golden Ale, at 5.2 percent ABV and 20 IBUs, is a sessionable, flavorful ale that starts sweet and ends crisp. Glütiny Pale Ale, at 6 percent ABV and 30 IBUs, has a light sweetness that slides into a balanced bitterness.
