Way back before Craft Brewing Business was launched (which might seem like the beginning of time, but this was really around 2011), some of the CBB boys thought the IPA style was played out. Since then, new hop strains have been developed, wet hopping has gone wild and, today, we can’t seem to get enough of that sweet IPA sip. Well, here comes a new challenger! Second Self Beer Co., Atlanta’s newest craft brewery located in the Westside neighborhood, released its Double IPA.
The brewery’s strongest beer yet, Second Self’s Double IPA (8 percent ABV, 88 IBU) is robust, full of juicy and citrusy hops with a nice malty finish for balance, the brewery explained. Pleasantly bitter with some restraint, this beer goes down smooth and is designed to pair well with food. Suggested pairings include sharp cheeses, roasted duck, beer cheese soup, late summer fires and celebrations.
Double IPA is being released one year to the day of Second Self’s first brew. The character on the label is Janus, god of beginnings, gateways and transitions. Double IPA mirrors the duality of Second Self’s sentiments while moving into its second year — looking back on the past in celebration and to the future with excitement.
