Craft Brewing Business has been covering the canned craft beer scene for years now: From its humble beginnings as a small packaging specialty to the now mainstream packaging option. To celebrate the creativity and convention of the can, Sun King Brewery will host the third annual Sun King CANvitational canned craft beer festival in downtown Indianapolis on Sept. 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s CANvitational will showcase more than 50 craft breweries from all over America and beyond. Award-winning breweries will offer samples of craft beer, and patrons can enjoy local food trucks and live music, all in an urban downtown atmosphere.
The invited breweries were selected because of the quality of craft beer they are producing and, as the name of the event suggests, the festival will feature breweries that can their beers. Since craft beer’s inception in the 1980s, bottles have been most commonly associated with craft beer. However, over the last decade the breweries featured at the CANvitational have led a revival of craft canning and helped change the way people view cans.
“We have invited our friends from across the country who share our passion for crafting world class beers and we are excited to showcase what they do and why we choose to can,” says Sun King Co-Founder Clay Robinson. “The most exciting part is that the majority of the beers available at the CANvitational aren’t even available in Indiana, which gives us the opportunity to provide a truly unique experience.”
