With so many craft breweries popping up and excelling today, it must be really easy to open and run a brewery, right? Wrong! For one thing, brewing a quality beer is difficult, and brewing one today, in a crowded field, is even tougher. Getting all of the right equipment, setting it all up and operating it efficiently to scale up the brewing of that beer is also a challenge. And then there is the selling and marketing of that beer to potential drinkers. Oh, and all of these things must be done within a bunch of legal and regulatory parameters.
So, really, nothing much about opening and operating a brewery is easy, which makes every little bit of advice and guidance along the way valuable. CBB tries to play its part and provide a variety of business-focused features. To that end, probably the best stuff in our archives comes from the big brains at The Craft Beer Attorney. From an in-depth trademark series, to the top legal mistakes breweries make, to their most recent on brewer compensation, the advice from the Craft Beer Attorney team is some of the best out there.
This is why we encourage aspiring brewery owners to check out their newest book “Brew Law 101: A Legal Guide to Opening a Brewery – California Edition.” It is a comprehensive text that deftly explains both the federal and California specific laws governing the manufacture of craft beer. Brew Law 101: California Edition walks the startup craft brewery and breweries-in-planning through every step of the process from business formation, capital raising, location and licensing to labeling, intellectual property, employment law and common craft beer contracts.
We highly suggest heading to their site to invest in a copy for yourself. But, just for you, kind CBB reader, we have an exclusive excerpt here for free download. Here you will get an intro into what the book is all about and a good conversation on the questions you need to ask yourself about your brewery from the very beginning, like what type of brewery business model are you going to pursue? And where are you getting the capital to fund everything?
OK, enough of my rambling. The download form is below. Enjoy.
