Friday Fun! Thinking & Drinking, a new craft beer card game

First off: CBB started thinkin’ and drinkin‘ at least three years ago. Second off: There’s a new card game based around the same concept — Thinking & Drinking: A Game of Self-Discovery or Self-Destruction, invented by craft beer enthusiasts Jon and Nikki Cooper (husband and wife co-creators). What’s the concept here, Nikki and Jon? According to their website:

Nikki and Jon have always been interested in craft beer. Nikki loves the label art, the design and the artistry on the bottle. Jon likes the artistry that goes into the bottle. Realizing they’re too old for games that involve red SOLO cups, Nikki and Jon decided to craft a game that encourages players to focus on each other rather than simply getting drunk. Thinking & Drinking’s design includes profiles of craft beers as a way to introduce players to breweries and beers that they may not yet know and to celebrate the artistry that is craft brewing.

So, how does this drinking game work, exactly? Well, the questions aren’t actually about beer. They’re just general life questions that foster conversation while you slosh back a few beers with buds and buddettes. There are six decks of cards aimed at revealing your personal side. Example: If giving up cheese made you immortal, would you do it? Fuck yes, noting this editor has already given up cheese. Or, which mythological creature do you wish actually existed? Cuthulu, of course.

Maybe the coolest part: Each card profiles a craft brewer with a featured beer, and that listing is free!

“While we have filled the 312 slots for this printing, we are already accepting submissions for the next version of the game,” said Jon Cooper. “We have had more than 300 breweries — from some of the top 10 in terms of size and some small, local start-ups — who understand that the conversations that take place over beers is important. This game is as much about the people playing it and their shared experiences than it is about the actual beer featured on the card.”

We want people to explore and support local craft brewing.
