We’re big fans of k-os. He’s one of those killer Canadian artists (like Sam Roberts) that never got proper appreciation in America. Tracks like “The Love Song” and “Crabbuckit” should be mega hits, but they’re probably just cooler as secret indie rap gems. Speaking of k-os, Canada and underrated hits, Ottawa craft brewery Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. has announced plans to release a collaborative beer with Toronto’s hip hop artist k-os this June. What a fan-frickin’-tastic idea.
The beer will be revealed at the Session Toronto Craft Beer Festival on Saturday June 13. The festival, which kicks off Ontario Craft Beer Week across the province, takes place at Yonge and Dundas Square that day over two tasting sessions, one daytime and one evening.
In addition to the chance to taste a wide variety of different beers from Ontario craft brewers, Session Toronto also hosts the Collaboration Nation contest. The contest allows attendees of the festival to cast their vote for their favourite “Collaboration Nation” beer, which are brewed by Ontario craft breweries teamed up with a celebrity. The top collaborative beer of the day, as tallied by total votes, wins a future spot on LCBO shelves.
Beau’s won Collaboration Nation in 2013 with The Tom Green Beer!, and took an honorable mention in 2014 with Margaret Atwood/Graeme Gibson’s MaddAddamites NooBroo. Beau’s 2015 partner, k-os, is several-times a Juno award winner and a veteran of the Canadian hip hop scene. The beer was conceived through multi-day brainstorming sessions, which led to a brewing concept that ties back to the core elements of k-os’ music.
