Your CBB pals have covered a variety of unconnected, obscure industries in our trade journalism careers — heavy-duty equipment, hospitality, title insurance, the automotive aftermarket — and all have been interesting and provided their own unique experiences. But man, craft brewing. There is just something different in the water that makes covering/writing about it way more fun (other than the malt, hops and yeast — though those help).
The story that inspired that little intro came from the UK, where word came out that Two Fingers Brewing has been nominated to win a share of $1 million in funding from The Venture funding aware. That’s cool, but not the coolest part: Two Fingers Brewing literally donates all of its profits to a prostate cancer charity.
Is charity a part of your business plan?
From The London Evening Standard:
Two Fingers Brewing, based in Kennington, was set up by seven friends who were inspired to launch a charity beer after losing friends and family to the disease.
All profits made from their craft beer go to Prostate Cancer UK, with a guaranteed 10p per bottle going to the charity.
The team all juggle full time jobs in advertising while running the business and sold 80,000 bottles in their first year of trading.
They are in the running with 16 other businesses from across the world for a share of the cash and trip to Silicon Valley to talk shop with some of the world’s best business minds.
If you feel so inclined, head to The Venture site and cast your vote for Two Fingers.
