Outside Magazine and Cycle Santa Fe are gearing up for the second annual Outside Bike & Brew Festival in Santa Fe, to be held May 13-17. A new lineup of bikes, beers and bands will celebrate the tourist seeking active cultural experiences. The lifestyle festival will blend a wide variety of road cycling, mountain biking and leisure rides with nightly craft beer events, films and activities for all ages.
“Year two of Bike & Brew has doubled in size,” says Christopher Goblet, event director and Cycle Santa Fe executive director. “We underestimated the turnout in our first year; so we have added twice the number of rides, beer gardens and concerts to accommodate a larger audience. Naturally, we ordered twice the amount of beer as well to be sure we keep up with demand.”
This year, a new concert pavilion will be unveiled in the Santa Fe Railyard Park. Friday night’s kickoff party will be headlined by indie rock band Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah next to the 25,000-square-feet beer garden that will feature craft brews from the region. The signature event of the weekend will also take place Friday night—the Handmade Bike & Handcrafted Beer Showcase will bring handmade bike builders from around the West and will feature New Mexico and Colorado craft brews inside the Santa Fe Farmer’s Market pavilion.
The popular Tour de Brewer ride which sold out multiple times at last year’s festival will be offered at six different times on Friday and Saturday, alongside other culinary cruises for foodies. The SRAM Gold Rusch Tour, featuring pro mountain biker Rebecca Rusch, will have an entire track for women cyclists that includes rides, clinics and lounges. Mountain bikers can check out the newest Flow Trail at La Tierra, and group rides will continue at various locations in town. The Railyard Park Main Stage will feature the Reverend Horton Heat and another beer garden.
This year, the Santa Fe Century turns 30, a milestone event that will attract more than 4,000 riders. For mountain bikers looking to test their strength, a new Enduro race hosted by Glorieta Camps has been added which traverses a course that climbs more than 4,000 vertical feet. The Bicycle Block Party wraps up the weekend at Marble Brewery’s Santa Fe Taproom with a bluegrass breakdown featuring Colorado bands Gipsy Moon and the Badly Bent followed by Los Angeles rockabilly bluegrass band Rose’s Pawn Shop.
