Not just any earthquakes — specifically Earthquakes in San Jose — and only when it relates to Major League Soccer. Gordon Biersch Brewing Co. and the San Jose Earthquakes recently announced a partnership that makes Gordon Biersch the club’s official craft beer sponsor, which is in no way related to terrifying and destructive acts of God as we implied in the headline. Sorry, loyal readers.
The deal coincides with the team’s 2015 home opener and public unveiling of 18,000-seat Avaya Stadium. The Earthquakes kicked off their 2015 home schedule yesterday (Sunday, March 22) against the Chicago Fire. Wait, is every Major League Soccer team named after a horrifying disaster? What does Dan Gordon say about all of this?
“The Earthquakes have been an incredible neighbor to us for years,” said Gordon Biersch co-founder Dan Gordon. “Heck, Gordon Biersch has been served at Earthquakes games even before Landon Donovan first came to the team as a rookie in 2001. Having opened our state of the art brewery in Japan Town in 1997, we appreciate all the great work the Earthquakes have done in the community and in making our city a better place to live. We’re honored to be the team’s official craft beer partner.”
Gordon Biersch Marzen, Pilsner and Hefeweizen will be available in aluminum bottles while Marzen, Golden Export and Pilsner will be on draught throughout the stadium.
“Gordon Biersch has been a great partner for many years,” said Earthquakes President Dave Kaval. “Our fans have enjoyed the many different varieties of Gordon Biersch at our stadium and we are proud to have them be the official craft beer of our club.”
