Louis Glunz Beer Inc., one of the largest craft and specialty import beer distributors in the Chicagoland area, announced the addition of Furthermore Brewing Co. to its portfolio.
“Furthermore Beer is very excited to be jumping on board with Louis Glunz and entering the Chicago market,” said Joe Collins, brewery representative at Furthermore. “We have had great feedback for years from the people crossing the border to get their Knot Stock fix or replenishing their Fatty Boombalatty stash. Now that we are on board with Louis Glunz, it’s our turn to make the drive. If anyone has any mix tapes they want to send our way, it would make the trip all that much more enjoyable.”
The Furthermore beers heading to Chicago this month include the aforementioned Knot Stock and Fatty Boomblatty, followed soon after by the addition of Makeweight. For the trip, following the request of Joe Collins, here is the Craft Brewing Business recommended mix tape:
Anyway, back to the beers:
Knot Stock (5.5 percent ABV) is a pale ale that combines fresh cracked pepper and Northern Brewer Hops for 65 IBUs (bitterness units). A healthy dose of caramel malt softens the pepper and adds to the beer’s rich, creamy mouth feel.
Fatty Boomblatty (7.2 percent ABV) is a Belgian-style golden ale that began as a recipe for a white beer, but was quickly amped up by a 50 percent raise in the grain bill, with a 75 percent drop in the amount of wheat to keep the beer a little rough around the edges. The bitterness of the beer resembles pale ale, and the hops are coupled with coriander during fermentation.
Makeweight (8.5 percent ABV) is a triple pale ale that mixes three regionally distinctive recipes. To begin, Esters from a dominant Flanders yeast are reigned-in by cleaner American and London strains. The Kent Golding hops provide mild bitterness, giving the English and Belgian specialty malts room to breathe. Finished off with Oregonian hops, this unusual beer has a fragrant nose and complex flavor.
Louis Glunz Beer is among the oldest beer distributors in the United States and the recipient of the 2012 Distributor of the Year award by Beverage World Magazine. The 125-year-old company is family-owned and operated by President Jack Glunz, the grandson of Louis Glunz I, with day-to-day operations led by five of his seven children as members of the fourth generation and with members of the fifth generation also on staff. Louis Glunz Beer represents more than 190 breweries around the globe.
