Craft brews come in all shapes, sizes and flavor profiles, but the IPA remains the real king of the craft brewing industry’s slow and steady domination of the beer drinking landscape. Will that change any time soon?
Not according to these numbers from food industry data company Technomic. The Technomic MenuMonitor shows that the IPA’s presence on on-premise menus increased 56 percent in the past two years and nearly 40 percent just in the third quarter year-over-year.
Some more numbers from the Technomic blog:
Retail sales of Lagunitas IPA surged almost 70 percent in 2013 to more than $84 million, Technomic’s DRINK resource finds. That was good enough to place the label at No. 76 on our 2014 list of the top 125 beer brands by retail sales. Dogfish Head’s 60 Minute IPA was No. 90 on that list after ringing up nearly $58.7 million in retail sales last year—an increase of 25 percent over 2012.
Be sure to check out the full post at Technomic for more on the IPA trend and what other styles have been boosted as a result.
