A label design can make or break a beer for a new or old customer. If it’s artful, it can entice a newcomer. If it looks cheap, it might even deter a fan of the brand. Anchor Brewing Co. has some of the classiest labels in the craft brewing industry, which personify the personalities of its beer. A lot of those visuals come from the mind of label artist Jim Stitt, who has had a hand in nearly every Anchor label since the 1970s. Our favorite Stitt project? The hand-drawn trees he etches each year for the Anchor Christmas Ale label, which is covered extensively in this video. Watch Stitt, Fritz Maytag and Dave Burkhart collectively tell the story of Anchor’s label history, which is a big part of its company culture.
“I feel I’ve helped create the image of the brewery, maintaining the historical quality and the hand-made quality of it,” Stitt said.
We totally agree. Cheers.
