Baderbräu has released new branding and packaging for its Pilsner varietal. Baderbräu Founder Rob Sama stated, “As Chicago’s Original Craft Beer, we felt that it was necessary that the Chicago Pilsner have Chicago colors. We are pleased that the new branding has been well received by our distributors and retailers.”
On shelves now, the new Pilsener packaging can be found at Binny’s, Kenwood Liquors, World Market, Berkots, Walts, Brookhaven Marketplace and Cardinal Liquors among others.
Baderbräu also currently has its summer varietal on shelves now, Lawnmower Lager, and customers can expect to see the second annual Oktoberfest varietal coming late summer.
Originally Baderbräu was brewed in 1989 by the Pavichevich Brewing Co. of Elmhurst, which at its height produced more than 14,000 barrels of Baderbräu annually. It was sold into more than 200 Chicago area bars and restaurants at a time when only major domestic beers from Anheuser-Busch, Miller, Coors and Heileman were sold widespread throughout Chicagoland. In 1998, as Pavichevich Brewing met with financial difficulties and could no longer keep up with demand, Goose Island acquired the rights to brew Baderbräu and did so until 2002, when it decided to focus entirely on its Goose-branded products. In 2010, Rob Sama formed Baderbräu Brewing Co. with the assistance of master brewer and original Baderbräu pilsener creator Douglas Babcook to bring back Baderbräu Chicago Pilsener to prominence.
