For the first time in its 26-year history, Pizza Port Brewing Co. is packaging its hand-crafted beer in cans in 2014. Ball Corp. is Pizza Port’s aluminum can supplier, but its massive canning line has been engineered by Italy’s CFT Group. According to the blog West Coaster, Team Marsaglia met the company at the CBC.
“We met the guys from CFT at the Craft Brewer’s Conference two years ago,” said Gina Marsaglia [who co-founded Pizza Port in 1987 with her brother Vince]. “They were great and we valued the opportunity to work with knowledgeable people in addition to the attention to detail the equipment provides. The low oxygen levels were another main interest in going with CFT. It’s practically magic when you see it run!”
It is sort of a magical experience to watch. Just enjoy this video. Then go enjoy one of three of Pizza Port’s most popular beers in cans (sorry, only available in San Diego County), including Chronic Amber Ale (known as ChronicAle), Ponto Pale Ale and the “sessionable” Swamis IPA.
