Here’s an oldie, but a goodie to start off your Friday. Let’s throw it over to the knowledgeable craft connoisseurs at Texas Brews.org. These guys (specifically Scooter Hendon) seek to advocate, inform and educate about craft beer in Texas and beyond. We especially like the site’s Texas Brew School (honestly, we’d love more of these). Although this particular video is a few years old, it’s still great info on brewing adjuncts (unmalted grains such as corn, rice, rye, oats and wheat used to supplement the main mash). For Big Beer, adjuncts are often intentionally used for cutting costs, which gives them a bad rep, but in craft brewing adjuncts can be used to create a bunch of rarely-lauded extras (better foam retention, increased flavors and even nutritional value). Learn more by watching the video above, then cruise over to Texas Brews.org to learn a lot more.
