Samuel Adams is known as a Boston Beer from the Boston Beer Co., but a good portion of its specialty products are actually brewed in Cincinnati. In the mid-1990s, Jim Koch returned to his hometown of Cincinnati to purchase the Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewery, a place where his father had apprenticed in the 1940s. In January 2005, Koch embarked on a major renovation and expansion of the Samuel Adams Brewery in Cincinnati, and now, the company looks to be expanding it Cincy location even further. According to an article on the Cincinnati Business Courier:
According to documents filed with the Cincinnati Department of Planning and Building, the brewer is planning a 6,700-square-foot expansion. The contractor is listed as Cincinnati-based Reece-Campbell Inc. The building permit application applied for but not yet issued is for a “beer storage building addition.”
According to Jessica Paar, senior public relations manager for Boston Beer Co., the company has already started installing tanks for aging and fermentation, enabling the brewery to increase production. Boston Beer Co.’s Cincinnati brewery is located at 1625 Central Parkway and produces a full range of the company’s core brands, but it is primarily a brewery for the production of the company’s specialty and lower volume products. From the aforementioned article:
Boston Beer would not disclose the amount of the investment it is making in its Cincinnati brewery, and the application filed with the city is for only the foundation, valued at $700,000. … In addition to the upcoming expansion, Boston Beer Co. is currently hiring for six positions in Cincinnati, including packaging operators, a brewing operator and an assistant brewing manager.
